Two-person interview:

Q: How do you feel about Joe Smith's campaign this year?

03:25:22
A: Well, I think, I think, you know, it's always hard to say with, uh, with Smith, because he's such a closed-off guy. He doesn't really, um, share what's on his br- on his mind unless you specifically ask him. Know what I mean? 03:25:47 Other than that, though, while I don't necessarily agree with his stance on a lot of issues, I do have respect for the guy. And uh, I have respect for his methods.

Q: And what do you think is on his mind these days?

03:25:59
A: Well, I'll, I'll- (Clears throat.) Um, I would bet he's worrying about the future of our educational system. You know, with the recent, uh, report card, shall we say, of the school district, I think it's on everybody's' minds.

Multi-person interview or round-table discussion:

[JC = June Cellway, RB = Ronald Burns, PH = Reverend Parker Howard]

01:30:47
RB: If we're gonna take that route, I would most certainly say that Generation-X is responsible for much of-

01:30:50
PH: No, no, hold on. This is iffy territory here. If you really want to (JC: But you've gotta be careful with that.) make a change in society, why not just look at the law books? They are going to tell you much more about how we think than just, you know, looking at a leisure activity that thirty-somethings have taken up. 01:31:11 What we have put down as laws are, are what, is what is representative of our values. It shows us where our energies lie, where we want to focus our time.

01:31:23
JC: But, guys, you have to really pay attention to- (People talking over one another, indistinguishable.) -throughout time. Both of you know we don't have time for that. We're better than that. Our society is, is, is...

01:31:34
RB: Well, I think the word you're looking for is "young." Say what you want, but the fact of the matter is that our young people (PH: I couldn't disagree more.) need the kind of support that is readily offered through those types of leisure activities. 01:31:58 I mean, we all probably grew up around the same time. (JC: Let's not go there!) [JC playfully slaps RB's shoulder. Everyone laughs.] But we have shared experiences, you know. We're coming from the, generally from the same viewpoint of time.

One-person talent:

06:09:01          LATOYA IN KITCHEN. Then all you have to do is add about half a cup of lime juice, which equals about four big limes. There we go. And you want to make sure you don't get any seeds in there. Don't be stingy. (Laughs.) 06:09:22 So sometimes you might wa- um, um, wait, was I supposed to do a half cup? 06:10:31 I'll I'm gonna do now is add a quarter cup of lime juice. So just squeeze those babies in there. Ok, great. Great. This is gonna be so yummy!

06:30:49          LATOYA IN KITCHEN. You can't have a mojito without a beautiful garnish. And since sugar- simple syrup, that is- is such an integral part of a mojito, I decided to add a beautiful little slice of sugar cane. Now, the earliest recipe for a mojito dates back to 1931, but I betcha people were making these puppies before that cuz they're sooo good. 06:31:17 Slicing up a sugar cane isn't hard, as long as you have a nice, sharp knife. Don't even try it with a dull knife because you'll end up hurting yourself. It's almost like slicing the kernels off a cob of corn. 06:31:30 Now, Cuba grows a lot of sugar cane. And I don't know if you've ever seen a sugar cane field, but it is really beautiful. A sight to see. The stalks kind of look like bamboo chutes, or eucalyptus branches.

Multi-person talent:

02:02:04
BOY: Mom, why did Daddy have to leave?

02:02:09
MOM: [Kneels down and hugs boy.] Honey, Daddy has a very important job to do. Our country needs him to help make our world safe.

02:02:22
BOY: But why can't somebody else do it?

02:02:28
BRIAN: Kid, stop asking questions. Can't you see your old lady's upset enough? (Flicks cigarette on ground.)

02:02:35 B-ROLL: "No Trespassing" sign blowing in the wind.

02:02:45 B-ROLL: View of prairie landscape from train platform. Train whistle sounds, then train pulls into station from left.

02:03:15
BRIAN: I guess I'll see you guys later. [Picks up luggage and walks to train.]
